My career as an artist began when I made the bold statement at 5 years old,
“I’m going to be an artist!”
For many years after completing my art education in commercial art in 1976,
I worked as a graphic artist. My earliest years began at Jesus People Church of
Minneapolis in publications. It was very unique in the way God led me there. After
the birth of my first son, I began freelancing for major advertising agencies and
studios such as Snyders, Holiday stores, Fingerhut Corp. and more. I also designed
logos for Ford Dealerships and many other companies and leading Christian ministries.
Some of my other design work included advertising pieces, hand lettering and signage,
illustrations and caricatures. This was all before the intrusion of computers and
did a lot of technical pen work and illustration. Commissioned house portraits in
watercolor and ink for private customers and commercial contractors were also in
my agenda. For ten
years, I published a Christian women’s newsletter and magazine called, “Gleanings”
that was distributed throughout the United States and overseas until God changed
my whole path into something new...fine art in watercolor painting ! In all my years
previously, fine art was of no interest or value to me. But it’s definitely what
I love doing now, although my creative juices in graphic design are still being used.
Entering my paintings in juried exhibitions is a new thing for me and am stepping
my way slowly into it.
I have operated my own gallery in Mound and Maple Plain, Minnesota and represented
at Gallery W in Long Lake, MN. My works have sold locally and nationally.
My goal is to paint with the inspiration God gives me to uplift the viewers’
hearts through the wildlife that I love. I aim my brush into the deep well of living
watercolor !
